4 of the Best Photo Ops in Maui

Maui is known for being one of the most scenic tropical destinations in the world. Visitors from all across the globe are drawn to its breathtaking views and rare marine life. From landscape and atmosphere to culture and cuisine, there’s so much Maui has to offer and you’ll want to capture every bit of it. The following is a look at some of the best places to photograph on the island of Maui:

Best Photo Ops in Maui

  • Makena Beach. Makena Beach boasts more than a mile and a half of glittering sand and is bordered by two black lava outcroppings. These outcroppings provide a nice windbreak and give the beach a secluded feel. Another memorable feature of this location is the bright turquoise waves that glisten in the sunlight.
  • Iao Valley. This historic and culturally important location is the site of the famed Battle of Kepaniwai, a late 1700s military event that attempted to unite all of the Hawaiian Islands under King Kamehameha. Today, the Iao Valley is a 4,000-acre state park that includes some of the most incredible tropical landscapes on the island. The park’s primary attraction is the Iao Needle, a volcanic remnant that rises an incredible 1,200 feet above a stream bed. There are numerous hiking trails throughout the park from which you can take pictures of this stunning sight. You’ll also discover vibrant flora, unique fauna and stunning mountains. Be sure to go on a sunny day to get the best possible picture.
  • Waimoku Waterfalls. When people think of Hawaii, waterfalls almost always come to mind. The stunning waterfalls of this region are one of the primary reasons so many regard Hawaii as the "Pearl of the Pacific". While there are dozens of waterfalls scattered throughout the island, one consistently ranked among the top 10 in Maui (and Hawaii) is Waimoku Falls. Waimoku Falls cascades an incredible 400 feet down a sheer lava rock wall and is surrounded by lush vegetation. It is a sight that will take your breath away.
  • Hana Rainforest. There is no better way to capture the beauty of the Valley Isle, than by photographing it from above. Aboard Maverick's Hana Rainforest Experience, you'll discover unparalleled views of Maui's northern shoreline, picturesque sea cliffs and even more waterfalls. With approximately 30 minutes of landing time at a former taro plantation deep within the lush rainforest, you can capture one-of-a-kind photos of an area of Maui seldom seen. This approximately 75-minute Maui helicopter tour is a vacation memory you won’t soon forget.
